WHAT IS EMAIL BOMBARDMENT?

An email bombing is an attack on your inbox that involves sending massive amounts of messages to it. Sometimes these messages are incomprehensible. But more often, they will be confirmation emails for newsletters and subscriptions. Thus, in the latter case, the attacker uses a script to search for forums and newsletters on the internet. Then they sign up for an account with your email address. Each will send you a confirmation email, asking you to confirm your address. Also, this process is repeated on as many unprotected sites as the script can find. The term Email Bombing or Email Bombing; it can also refer to flooding an email server with too many emails. In an attempt to overwhelm the server and disable it. But that's not the goal here; it would be a challenge to cut down on the modern email accounts used. Meanwhile, Google or Microsoft email servers, anyway. So instead of a denial of service (DOS) attack; against the email servers you are using. Also, the flood of messages

THE MOST DANGEROUS RANSOMWARE

The world is experiencing new forms of intrusion, obtaining easy money is directed to the digital sphere that is why some call it cyber-extortion and others, cyberterrorism. Likewise, what variants of the virus are born with a single purpose: to grow profits through some payment as a reward, through cryptocurrencies, and with the promise of returning the information, of what companies treasure the most.

Ransomware: the dangerous threat

The most notorious cases are WannaCry, Petya (mainly in Ukraine) or EthernalRock, due to their impact on companies' teams and they became the main threats. The damages were irreparable, substantial and of great magnitude for hospitals, banks, train stations and universities.

However, the issue has been talked about with the reappearance of Cryptolocker in 2013, which is a kind of first cousin of ransomware and even further back, in 2010, the police virus, was also a type of intruding worm. That is to say, the subject has been talking about, however, what varies are the consequences that they bring to world organizations.

That add features or something more complex. The user had to download an attachment and the same ransomware affected the system but only that computer. But now it takes advantage of a vulnerability and has the ability to self-spread to more operating systems affecting institutions globally. And this increased the consequences”.

According to the Reports, it was concluded that 16% of companies had been victims on their computers by a specific form of ransomware.

That is the principle of ransomware, first it encrypts the data and you cannot access the encrypted information, only with the key you can enter; however only the attacker owns it. Then the recommendation is to have the software updated to stop the infections.

“Many times the software and operating system are not updated, although the update had already been applied by Microsoft, it must also be updated manually.”

Other devices where cybercriminals turn their gaze to smartphones, and it is even predicted that they may be compromised by the rise of the so-called Ransomware of Things (RoT).

According to the laboratory, it found the existence of multiple malicious codes on Android, specifically 300 new variants per month. Likewise, one in 10 companies surveyed indicated that they keep an antivirus available on their smartphones.

SECURITY MEASURES

Among the security alternatives that must be applied are: antimalware, information backup and audits that the companies themselves generate in order to successfully protect the company.

A relevant piece of information from the study is that 83% of companies obtained antimalware or antivirus software as a security solution. Still it may sound somewhat paradoxical as 17% do not use any protection.

Additionally, erroneous practices that implement CISOs were highlighted, for example downloading software and at the same time disabling the security solution, this decision can generate irreparable consequences.

“We must use them to protect ourselves. We must promote the use of security technologies".

The use of securities and antivirus software is really important as ransomware is not any normal virus which can be removed easily. If it gets into any computer it affects the device a lot and make them of no use, so just have security and software to keep your device safe and secure.
